Good 50×70

Making a change is hard, it takes a lot  work and dedication. But it all starts with a voice, a collective idea that something has to be changed. In our world today, there are several things that need to be spoken of, in the hope that making a statement will help change the world. Posters can help to make that statement more sublime and transcend space and time.

Due to its massive appeal and easy distribution, posters have for centuries headlined as the communication method for propagandist causes. Today, everything moves too fast for printer materials to keep up. Social Media, Internet and TV (yes still, a little) are now leading the advertising world. We don’t buy a deodorant because you saw a cool poster, but maybe because you “liked” the product in Facebook and they offered you discount. It is maybe because of this why posters have become a more sublime form of communicating ideas, and allows for projects like Good 50×70 to take place.

Good 50×70 is a project that started a few years back, as a idealistic attempt to create a community of artists and designers, that utilize their talent to give a voice to the different charities sponsored by the event. Every year each of the sponsored charities submits a creative brief. Participating artists can pick as many briefs as they want (or one that hits close to their hearts) and create a visually striking response to the brief in the form of a poster of 50cm by 70cm (hence the name), and submit it along the thousands of people around the world participating in this event. The posters of the final selection become part of the 50×70 exhibition. An exhibition that travels the world taking the message, and proven once more that no matter how many differences we have there is the sense of hope that unites us and make us all part of this human race that wishes for a better world.

If you wish to participate in this years installment of Good 50×70, please visit their website, everyone is welcome to participate, you have till June 12th to submit a poster. This years, the charities are; AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, AMREF, EMERGENCY, GREENPEACE, LIBERA, LILA, WWF. Take a good read on the briefs, and think that your work can become part of a voice, a voice that will sound around the world, and maybe, just maybe, help change the world.
